For our upcoming 32nd anniversary

August 19, 2013

[With due deference to T. S. Eliot*, marriage is NOT a waste.]

August is the “coolest” month, bringing
Forth feelings that celebrate our love, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Passion as if it were Spring.
Marriage kept us warm, covering
Us in a blanket of sunlight, feeding
Our souls in the renewal of life.
The passage of time surprised us, yielding
Thirty two years of intimate hours.
Hold on tight.  And there we went.
Now she reads much of the night as I rest my eyes.
But our days are not wasted and our lives
Rich with our devotion.
