My close friend’s father passed away.

September 26, 2011

My close friend’s father passed away.
Sometimes it is a relief
When illness has lingered.
Of course, it is a rest for the afflicted.
Still, I know the pain and grief for the rest.
Sadness overwhelms.
The voice catches in the throat.
The tears roll down.
The legs drag.
A gloomy exhaustion pervades.
Concentration is impossible.
I feel so sorry for those, like me,
That have lost both parents.
There’s nobody ahead of us now.
Such a strange aloneness for us,
Even among our loved ones,
Siblings, spouses, children, family.
But we are surrounded by their love
Which buoys us and keeps us from sinking.
We find solace and strength in them.
They give us hope and
Help us to find our peace
And ultimately our happiness again.
