Thirty Years

August 21, 2011

How does one describe feelings
That words fail to express?
Our marriage of thirty years
Will be celebrated this month,
And my heart is full.
Love as a word is not enough.
There’s more than that.
There’s the breathtaking moment of joy
When I see her, at rest, at play, at work,
Doing what she loves or what she must.
Or when she catches me looking and smiles.
There’s the intimacy of holding hands and more.
There’s the ardor of our togetherness,
The satisfaction of sharing days and nights,
The companionship of our silence,
The pride in our children,
And the prescience that this will continue.
